[Men's Cross Country] Cross Country places 6th at Coastal CarolinaPublished by
CONWAY, S.C.- The St. Andrews University men's cross country team finished sixth in the tough Coastal Carolina 5K Invitational on Friday evening. SAU also finished third among Div. II & III teams as well with 60 points just behind Coker College's 52 for second. Coastal won the main event followed by the Citadel and UNC-Wilmington while Div. III Concord (WV) won the smaller division title. Freshman James Maddox (FR/Hurst, TX) led the way again for the Knights finishing first on the team and 20th overall in a time of 17:10 for the 3.1 mile race. Maddox's time was also 7th best among non-Div. I teams. Junior Zack Castor (JR/Menifee, CA) came next in 29th place with a time of 17:56 while freshman Caleb Calderon (FR/Austin, TX) was right behind in 30th in 18:02. Sophomore Eduardo Andrade (SO/Mount Holly, NC) finished 37th in 18:37 while senior Chase Kopp (SR/Bealeton, VA) wrapped up the scoring with a time of 18:57. Other SAU finishers were senior Michael Hare (SR/Marlton, NJ) in his season debut finishing the race in 20:03 while sophomore Franco Portillo (SO/Menifee, CA) crossed the line in 22:34. Michael Lantz of the Citadel won the 60-man race in 15:46.
